1st-Place Chargers Sweep Kishwaukee for 10th Straight Victory

Make it a perfect 10 for the Carl Sandburg College baseball team.

The Chargers extended their winning streak to 10 games — all in Arrowhead Conference play — by sweeping Kishwaukee 13-3 and 7-5 on Friday afternoon at the William “Bill” Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex. The victories keep the Chargers (17-6, 10-0) alone atop the Arrowhead standings midway through their league schedule.

First baseman Cacey O’Brien (Moline, Ill./Moline) went 3 for 4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. He was one of five Chargers to record multiple hits in addition to being one of five to score multiple runs.

Key Moments

  • Tied at 1 in the fourth, third baseman Austin Traub (Coal Valley, Ill./Moline) delivered a two-out, two-run base hit to left, and the Chargers never trailed again.
  • Kishwaukee loaded the bases in the fifth, but reliever Cade Hannan (Moline, Ill./Moline) got a strikeout to end the threat and hold Sandburg’s lead at 3-2.
  • The Kougars put runners on the corners with one out in the seventh, but Jack Gray (Burlington, Iowa/Notre Dame) got a popup and a strikeout to close out the game for his third save of the season.
